Essay on Diwali in English

Diwali is a famous festival of Hindu tradition. It is celebrated across the India on Amavashya of Kartika month every year. On this day Bhagwan Rama returned to Ayodhya after killing Ravana and after spending 14 years in forest. People of Ayodhya lit the lamp with joy in his honour. Since then diwali is celebrated on this special day every year.

Diwali is a five day festival which starts from Dhanteras. Dhanteras is celebrated two days before from diwali. On this day people do shopping and purchase a lot of things including Gold and Silver Coins. It is believed that purchasing on Dhanteras increases the wealth and prosperity.

On second day from Dhanteras Diwali is celebrated. On this day people wears new clothes, children burns firecrackers and enjoy themselves. In the evening people lit Diyas, Jhalar and Candles and decorate their home beautifully.  As all the surroundings are filled with lights on this day, Diwali is called festival of lights. People share sweets and gifts with friends and workers with great joy and enthusiasm. In the night Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha is worshiped. On this day people do good deeds. It is assumed that doing good deeds on Diwali makes person good and kind.
